Our next Volunteer Guide Recruitment and Training Session will be held at the Marine Discovery Centre in Eden at 10am on Wednesday 10th February 2010.  Anyone wishing to attend this Session should contact the Centre on 6496 1699 or email admin@sapphirecoastdiscovery.com.au

Our Staff and Volunteer Guides are ready to welcome you to the Marine Discovery Centre so bring the whole family and 'see the sea' down at the Snug Cove Wharf in Eden!!

Seaweed Workshops a huge hit

A series of workshops about the seaweeds of the Far South Coast were a huge hit with local community members at the end of November.  Made possible by a Grant from the Community Coastcare Program under the Australian Government's Caring for our Country initiative, both workshops were fully booked and participants are still excited about what they have learnt.

Led by Australia's leading experts in the subject of macroalgae and algae, Prof Alan Millar from the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney and his former student Dr Nick Yee, people of all ages were fully engaged in the biology of seaweeds, the habitats they grow in, what they can be used for and just how important to the biodiversity of the marine environment they are.

The fantastic coverage we received from workshop participant and well known ABC radio rural reporter Keva Gocher spread the news across the state and the 2nd series of workshops in February are fully booked as a result.  Anyone wishing to list themselves in the 'reserves list' can contact Steve White, SCMDC Marine Teacher by phone on 6496 1699 or email: admin@sapphirecoastdiscovery.com.au

Aquariums, touch tank, microscopes, beach combing table, theatrette and kids' activities.  And all of it is fun and educational.  What a great idea for those afternoons when the kids are all sunburnt and tired from the beach!  See you soon down at the Eden Wharf.

GUIDED SNORKEL TOURS over Christmas School Holidays

Join in the fun on a GUIDED SNORKEL TOUR of the amazing marine environment of the Sapphire Coast. Ages 12+. Tours last for 2 hours and we supply the gear if you do not have your own. Adults $25, Children $10, Families $60. Minimum group size 4, Maximum group size 8.

Christmas Holiday Opening times

The Discovery Centre will be open from Wednesday to Sunday every week of the Christmas School Holidays starting on Sunday 27th December between 1pm and 4pm.  Our staff and Volunteer Guides will be ready and waiting for you and your family to come and learn all about our amazing and beautiful marine environment.  Stay tuned for dates, times and venues for our exciting Outdoor Activity Programs!
